Get Involved

This administration is committed to a government that empowers the people it serves. During the transition, we made a promise to the voters of Seattle: if you want to get involved in your community, we’ll help you find something to do.

The map below represents opportunities to engage with City representatives in your neighborhood; you can view it in map form or list form, search for events near you down to a 0.1 mile radius, subscribe to it as an RSS feed, and add events automatically to your personal calendar. We'll be adding new web tools and resources here as time goes on, but you can always find this specific calendar at http://seattle.gov/calendar/outreach.htm. If you have any questions, or if you'd like to talk to someone about ways that you can get more involved in your neighborhood, please E-mail or call our Community Engagement Coordinator, Sol Villarreal, at sol.villarreal@seattle.gov or 206-233-2656.

Public Engagement and Outreach Events

There are also great web calendars for all of the Boards and Commissions (see here for more information about each one) as well as the Seattle City Council (see here for a great guide to the Council itself); all of the meetings for both are open to the public, but only the Council meetings provide opportunities for public comment.

If you’re looking for more direct volunteer opportunities, check out the following resources to get you started:

  1. You can find a listing of volunteer opportunities with the City of Seattle at seattle.gov/volunteer.

  2. Volunteer Match has lots of listings, and their iPhone app is one of the best location-based search tools for volunteer opportunities that's currently available.

  3. United Way of King County has a near-comprehensive directory of local non-profit organizations that's searchable by keyword and zip code, and they have a lot of volunteer listings of their own.

  4. Seattle Works is a great local organization specifically geared towards providing meaningful one-time volunteer opportunities as well as opportunities for continued leadership and civic involvement for people in their 20's and 30's.
